WMO MCH database management system installation and operationalization in the Volta Basin countries

Under the Framework of the Volta Flood and Drought Management (VFDM) project, WMO in joint collaboration with National Meteorological and Hydrological Services and Volta Basin Authority is presently conducting a four-day regional advanced training workshop on WMO Meteorology Hydrology and Climatology (MCH) database management system in Cotonou, Benin.

The MCH training workshop between 27 February – 1 March 2024 will provide necessary theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to both hydrological, meteorological and climatological data providers and users and will support in monitoring and forecasting hydro-meteorological hazards. Also, the workshop will provide opportunity to deliver training on the MyDewetra VOLTALARM Early Warning System (EWS) mainly to present the functionalities and global and regional products available for flood forecasting and drought monitoring in the Volta Basin.

The workshop is attended by more than 25 participants mainly from the national and regional agencies of the Volta Basin involved in collecting, storing and utilizing the main driving hydro-meteorological parameters for flood and drought events (e.g. precipitation, water levels, temperature, humidity, soil moisture, etc.).

Once MCH database management system is established and operational, the processed data and information from the MCH database will be visualized under the MyDewetra VOLTALARM Early Warning System (EWS) for National Agencies involved in flood and drought monitoring, forecasting, and warning services.
